Yahoo has easily become one of the most versatile, and utilized, websites in the world. In fact, this website is used to do everything from maintaining an email account to online dating, and more. But in order to get the most out of your Yahoo experience, you need to know your password. The key to that is learning how to recover your Yahoo password in the event that you forget it. Follow these simple steps to do it the right way.
One word of warning before you begin you cannot actually recover an existing password on Yahoo. Just as with many secure accounts today, instead of recovering an existing password, you will be resetting your password. This is actually a security feature to help ensure that your account isn’t hacked by someone else.
- Go to the site. The first step in being able to reset your Yahoo password is to actually go to the website in question. This is in fact the easiest part of the whole process since you should only need to type Yahoo.com into the address bar.
- Locate “Sign In.” Look in the upper right hand corner of the webpage, and you should see a button that says “Sign In.” When you find it, click on it, and it will take you to the sign in page. When you access the sign in page, you will notice that you are asked to provide both your Yahoo! ID as well as your password. Since you can’t remember your password, you will need to look under the “Sign In” button for the link entitled “I can’t access my account,” click on that link.
- Identify the problem. After you have pushed the button saying you can’t access the account, you will be taken to the problem page. On this page you will be asked what exactly the problem is. The choices that you have are pretty self-explanatory, but to be on the safe side, you should select the one that says you are having a problem with your password.
- Verify. Before you can reset your password, you need to verify who you are. This means that you will be asked to enter your Yahoo! ID. Be sure that when you enter this, you are entering the entire thing, which will look something like: yourname@yahoo.com. Once you have entered that, you will then be asked to enter an alphanumeric sequence of characters. This code is not case sensitive, so only worry about getting the characters correct. Once you have entered both of these, click the “Next” button.
- Choose delivery method. You now have the option of how you will reset your password. You can either have a text message sent to your mobile phone, or answer some security questions that you came up with when you first created the account.
- Enter verification. If you have the code sent to your cell phone, you will then need to enter it into the system. However, if you are answering the security questions, you will need to answer each one correctly to proceed. In the event that you have problems receiving the code, let the system know so that you can take the appropriate steps.
- Create a password. Once you have passed all the security questions, you will need to create a new password. The nice thing about Yahoo is that it will let you know whether or not the password is strong or not. Just make sure that you choose a password that is easy for you to remember. You will also need to enter the password twice to make sure that you have it entered correctly.
After you have finished entering the password the second time, and everything is OK, you are pretty much finished. About the only thing that you need to do now is make sure that you have copied the password somewhere, and that it will be kept in a secure location. Remember, if you don’t keep your passwords safe and secure, you can easily end up with someone accessing your account that you don’t want to.
